DYER SWITCH BAND-FAMILY BUSINESS Independence Records, No Number. The Dyer Switch band has been playing their own brand of bluegrass music since 1992, and they have earned numerous accolades, including being inducted into the New York State Country Music Hall Of Fame. "Family Business" is apparently their first recording for Independence Records and features the lead vocals of Tom Benson (mandolin and guitar) and JoAnn Sifo (guitar), along with Bob Altschuler (banjp and resonator guitar), Nick Viscio (fiddle), and Randy Jennings (bass). The dozen selections are drawn from a number of.sources, including Jackson Browne ("For A Dancer") and Fleetwood Mac ("You Say You Love Me"). JoAnn performs a swinging rendition of the Supremes' "Where Did Our Love Go?," while Tom Benson contributes the title song. Other highlights are Hobo Jack Adkins' "Another Night," "The Heavenly Light Is Shining," and the instrumental "Becky Ann's Bluegrass Rag." Dyer Switch has created a masterful recording that beautifully showcases their mesmeric charm. (Dyer Switch Band, 884 Kings Rd., Schenectady, NY 12303)        By Les Mcintyre |
